General From CBS's Document Story Says CBS Misled Him - Thinks They're A "Fraud"
Pretty soon Dan Rather will be all out of "sources"...from ABC News:
Retired Maj. General Hodges, Killian's supervisor at the Grd, tells ABC News that he feels CBS misled him about the documents they uncovered. According to Hodges, CBS told him the documents were "handwritten" and after CBS read him excerpts he said, "well if he wrote them that's what he felt." Hodges also said he did not see the documents in the 70's and he cannot authenticate the documents or the contents. His personal belief is that the documents have been "computer generated" and are a "fraud". |

I'm really starting to like ABC's "The Note"
They are NOT a right-wing friendly entity, they are still under the liberal monolith of the major networks, but... in their note section, they tend to drop the official tone just a bit, let down their guard and be a bit more honest and casual. They also try to be fair, sometimes hitting Bush, sometimes Kerry, sometimes they arent fair, but no one's perfect. |

I understand why. I feel for these guys...they like their guy and their beliefs every bit as much as I think my beliefs are right. I give Jaz a hard time because he's a little more rigid in these beliefs than most might be, but give the guy credit for being a good partisan. Nothing wrong with that. But he does seem to hang onto unsupportable ideas and he is a bit eager to buy into the conspiracy theories necessary to explain away some of Kerry's behavior. Anyway, I would be going nuts if my candidate was Kerry. Not only is he a wet-noodle most of the time, his campaign has been totally out-maneuvered by the Bush campaign. I can imagine the Dems down at the DNC just banging their heads off the walls in total disbelief that the guy who went to Vietnam can't make it an issue (of course this is because Kerry has exaggerated just enough of his biography to call all aspects into question and his less than flattering opposition to the service he now touts as the cornerstone of his campaign). Oh well, what can you do. |

The Note is a good summary to read in the morning... |
It gets worse. Not only did they interview Killian's wife and kid, who strongly suggested he did not write the memo, there's this from the AP:
"Casting further doubt on the memos, The Dallas Morning News said in a report for its Saturday editions that the officer named in a memo as exerting pressure to "sugar coat" Bush's record had left the Texas Air National Guard 1 1/2 years before the memo was dated. The newspaper said it obtained an order showing that Walter B. Staudt, former commander of the Texas Guard, retired on March 1, 1972. The memo was dated Aug. 18, 1973. A telephone call to Staudt's home Friday night was not answered. " At this point, firing Rather isn't sufficient. The entire CBS News staff needs to be gutted. It is rotten to the core. |

That was... very painful. All year I knew we would get our ass kicked and thered be nothing we could do about it, sometimes I put on the brave face and made myself believe we could win, but we had one horrible loser of a candidate. I could barely bring myself to vote and watch the returns that day. It was so bad our freaking congressional candidates ran a commercial telling the people not to write Clinton a blank check, essentially saying "we know your going to re-elect clinton, but you dont want to give him congress, do ya?" Everybody out there, think about 1996 a while.... and then feel some sympathy for pool ol jaz. He's going through a hard time right now, and we've all been there 2 cycles ago. |
