Greg Rob!nson bringing a more physical approach defense against the Hogs?
per ESPN
No. 8 Texas vs. Arkansas (8:45, ESPN) We all remember what happened last year when Arkansas went to Austin and embarrassed the Horns on their home field. The Razorbacks ran the ball 60 times for 265 yards and wore down Texas on the way to a 38-28 victory, and you have to believe a year to think about the postgame celebration by the Hogs will have the Longhorns coming to Fayetteville in an angry mood. These teams do not like each other and this game has the potential to be the nastiest of the weekend. Texas has talked all offseason about new defensive coordinator Greg Rob!nson grob bringing a more physical approach to the defense, and after what happened last year we're going find out whether the Horns have improved in that area. Keep and eye on middle linebacker Aaron Harris MLB and safeties Phillip Geigar and Michael Huff to see if they are ready to come up and take on the Arkansas running backs. Texas will also have to contain Arkansas quarterback Matt Jones, who got in the open and had a couple of long scrambles on his way to 100 yards rushing in last year's win in Austin. If the Longhorns can keep him in the pocket and dictate the tempo they will be in good shape. Texas quarterback Vince Young will be an equalizer with his scrambling ability and improved passing. Look for him break some big scrambles on the outside because of the amount of man-to-man coverage Arkansas plays. But I like Horns tailback Cedric Benson to be the star of the game with well over 100 rushing yards. His contributions and a physical defense leads to a 27-17 payback win for Texas in Fayetteville. I wonder if Arkansas coach Nutt has being using the Colts vs Chiefs film to prepare his team for that physicalTexas D. ROFL |

I always thought GR's scheme was more suited for the College Level. GR's scheme reminds me a lot of Norm Parker's D at Iowa. They don't get a ton of pressure on the QB from their front 4, and they really don't blitz at all. They just sit back and make plays. The LB's read the QB's eyes and try and sniff out the run/pass.
It's a simplistic scheme that gets torched on the NFL level because QB's in the NFL, if given time, wil pick you apart all day long. Your not going up against some 19 year old Sophmore, your going up against 10 year Vets that can read D's in their sleep. GR should be successfull at the College level. |
They talked about the toughness Robinson was bring on ESPN College Game Day this morning as well. Not sure I get it....

The game actually starts at 7:45 on ESPN. I expect a very angry Texas to show up. I can't wait to see if the Texas DB's play 15 yds off the LOS.

I call BS. the words greg Robinson and Physical should never be mentioned in the same breath.

They just broke down the Razorbacks TD run, and the Texas d slanted to the strong side on the snap, and it was a counter away. Easy TD, and the announcer said "Nobody was home."
No shit. Looks like things haven't changed much with that sack of shit. Still looking for the zone defense to pop up. |
