When I worked in Independence, Derrick's house was right down the street in a subdivision called The Cliffs, just off US 40 and just west of I-470. He had a black Mercedes convertible, and used to come screaming out of the subdivision onto US 40. I saw him many times. He was always speeding. I guess one of his character traits was that he was always running late for something. In the end, it cost him his life.

Yup, when I was growing up I lived the next block over and shoveled the snow off his driveway more than a few times. He paid better than the other neighbors too so that made me like him all the more.
