That might have been the dumbest mistake I've seen in decades. Seriously, I can't think of any other play that literally gave the losing team a chance to win due to an outrageously stupid penalty.

Yes, but everyone overlooks Geno had them in Bills territory after starting on the 20, no timeouts and about 35 seconds to go. If he hadn't have done that the penalty would have been meaningless. There were also 7 seconds on the clock and he needed about 10 more yards to get into field goal. They may have won anyways without the penalty, but it was a nice present.
