I don't mind the Tune on Brittney's voice, the producers have it mixed to perfection with her natural voice, that only Brittney is going to have that sound.
Using the voice as an instrument can be just like any other instrument.
Plug a Les Paul into a Marshall and it's going to be the same sound for everyone, until the personal play style comes out, and that is how you get your unique sound.
That said. Like Dane has mentioned, it is easy to just wrap a Tune on the entire vocal track, but the difficult part is to get it to blend with the vocalist to perfection... where you still get the performance and the style from the singer.
Shit like the CHER or T-Pain? effect is where autotune gets stupid. All of that robotic shit.
