So today when I was trying to watch the Chiefs game, my 2 year old daughter, Kaiya, slapped my 1 year old daughter, Phaedra in the face...sparking a squabble between the two of them. I shouted at Kaiya, "KAIYA! That's MEAN!!! Be nice to your sister!!! Go give her a hug!!!" She replied with, "NO!" I repeated, "give Phaedra a hug!" She replied again with, "no." I then started counting to 5...She knows she will be in big trouble if I get all the way to 5. At 3, she began walking towards Phaedra with her arms outstretched and when she "hugged" her, she proceeded to smother her to the ground and a wrestling match between the two of them ensued. Ugh... I think the differences between raising girls vs. raising boys has been vastly exaggerated to me by various people for that situation was eerily similar to ones I recall growing up with my brother, Justin (he is 29, I am 30) as well as the ones I witnessed while watching my two baby brothers, Shea (16) and Brennan (14) grow up. Unbelievable.
