Other local kids in that area who weren't uber high recruits but turned out to be really good players were Rucker, Coffman, and Gachkar.

I'm not sure, but he was offered by Illinois when it meant something and Wisconsin.
I've heard all sorts of weird explanations for Missouri's failures in St. Louis, including allegations of Norm Stewart's racism, which made no sense to me given that he recruited the **** out of Detroit. I'm sure duncan has far more background information on that than I do, as I'm a first generation fan.
