I haven't noticed it so much this time because it's been fairly cold up here lately, but when we played Boston in 2004 people wearing Red Sox caps (all brand new looking, ironically) popped up everywhere. Cub fans embraced their Bostonish spirit, and logically concluded that since the Red Sox were finally in the World Series, their time was near! I remember hearing that over and over. Next year's our turn, they said. Of course, the next year, the White Sox won the World Series. Oh their misery was delicious. But they took it as a sign. If the Red Sox won and then the White Sox won, by God, 2006 must be their year! And the Cards won it. Oops. But 2007 would be their year! Swept in 3. No seriously, 2008 will be it! Swept in 3. ****ing clowns.
They're probably fishing their barely worn 9-year-old Red Sox caps out of the bottoms of their closets for the weekend, though. It's supposed to warm up a bit.
