If the blue skews toward metro blue districts while the red skews toward more podunk, then of course your red districts are going to have slower economic growth.
Keep in mind as well that "unemployed" in the U.S. means recently employed and actively seeking a job. That's an unknown condition for a lot of democrat voters.
