Because the shit has been hatched out a million times with reponses that pretty much match what Pablo said. Then somehow that line of thinking turns into "Want the Chiefs to lose so you can be right about Smith". That's just ****ing stupid.
Here is the kicker. I pretty much agree with you on this. However the problem is being able to do that with the offense while maintaining the defense. You just can't spend that type of money of the offensive side of the ball to make Alice a servicable QB and keep the #1 defense in the league. The thing to do would be to get a QB that can overcome the the short comings of the offensive line and WR/TE position. It's just not a situation where one can have their cake and eat it to.

Whether or not Smith was the QB of the 2013 Chiefs, the fact remains that the interior of the offensive line needs a massive upgrade, they're weak at WR (especially slot) and the roster doesn't have the kind of TE that's usually required to run a successful WCO.
All of those missing players with Alex Smith results in an offense that's struggling.
