If I wasn't so care free (like many people) I might start fights with the people throwing footballs, or complain to the stadium and try to claim they owe me to fix dents in my car, which whether the stadium would actually do that or not it would be a waste of time for them to deal with.

I would imagine that sort of thing happened enough in San Diego that they just said, screw it, they can't throw footballs anymore.
That's the way I see it too. But neither the security guy or the guy getting fined handled the situation well either.
