A lot of times, by the time they figure out he's not, it's either time to pay, or you've already paid and it's too late.
I think I'd do the same though, but I'd be much more available to trading said qb before a decision becomes a fact.

Well nobody said it was easy to build a winner...
Look at Kaepernick. The 49ers are going to have to make a decision on him after next season. Based on hype alone, that kid's going to want top 10 QB money. Well look at how the top QB deals are going right now - in 2015, a top 10 QB's going to be about $18-20 million in cap space.
So are they cool losing Aldon Smith and Michael Crabtree because of that deal? They may not have a choice.
It's just an interesting dilemma.
