There are a lot of personal factors at play. A good example is my mom. Her dialect has actually shifted to more of a southern drawl when it was formerly Midwestern, despite not moving, whereas mine went the opposite direction.

I used to call a soft drink pop, now I call it soda. Car-mul became Kara-mel.

They missed some really good ones on there like Wash being pronounced "warsh", even in popular names, yell being "holler", and some others.
