Meat tenderizer. It's usually 24, 36, or 48 small and sharp needle-blades that pierce meat. It's got a spring loaded cover so it guides those blades well.
It does a great job with tenderizing meat, and allowing it to pull marinade deep into the meat.
And, it speeds up the cooking of the meat too (if that's somehow important). But it's very important to understand that it speeds up the cooking process because there's nothing worse that meat that's overcooked.
