In my mind this only really looks bad because he didn't play well this past season. If the Redskins were in the playoffs right now nobody would care that Snyder and RGIII are buddies.
Using that to gain leverage over teammates, however, is an example of bad leadership. That being said if they are still committed to him as their "franchise" QB, which they obviously are, then he probably should have some influence over the head coaching decision.
