It's simple psychology, as the studies show. When a human has problems accomplishing things on their own (known in pyschology as "merit"), they often use the accomplishments of fellow in-group members to create a surrogate feeling. Commonly known as
basking in one's glow. We saw it clearly with how they worshipped Alabama.
It's something that people with merit don't do. You won't read Kentucky praising Alabama on their boards, or LSU, or Florida. It's the Mizzou/Mississippi State/Arky types that do.
