Even if not the actual law, it is considered a philosophical underpinning to later documents because this document is about natural law which precedes, even supercedes all man-made laws. So this document influenced our founding laws....without which may have not been written the way it was.
In reference to a common calendar. It has nothing whatsoever to do with the text of the document other than to date it. Are you referring to the DoI? Do you know what the Declaration of Independence has in common with the script of Breakin' 2: Electric Bugaloo? Neither one is the basis of our legal system.
