I could give 2 sh*ts what he says in an interview. The film says he has more Tavon Austin in him than he does Steve Smith. That's not going to change with defenders getting even stronger, faster, and more physical at the next level.
Cooks' best fit will be as a complementary slot receiver. It would be stupid to try to turn him into the "next Steve Smith" like people try to do with every other short and fast black receiver that comes into the league; same thing people do with short and quick white receivers and Wes Welker.
Cooks will have a far more productive career as a slot guy. Doesn't mean I think he's a bad player, just means that I think it would be like trying to fit a square peg into a round hole; the perimeter just isn't his place.
The only way he could prove me wrong is to start on the outside for the next few seasons and put up 1k yard seasons each year. Until then, I stand by my assessment.
