Then don't be surprised when LGBT people take offense to you saying that (or someone else saying the same thing to them). You're equating who they are as a person with sin (something is wrong with them) and saying they made a choice about being the way they are, sexually. If you can't see how that would offend someone, and how it would draw a strong reaction against it, I don't know what else to say.
