I can see that. I was kind of similar. My dad was not a hippie, but I used to drive him crazy at an early age asking questions about music. He always tells a story about me at maybe 5-6 years old bugging him to try to understand the difference between bass, rhythm, & lead guitars. He told me to just listen to the song and be quiet. That was never going to work with me.
