He probably does own it...I'll have to ask him on the phone...I'm actually going to stay with him at his place in Iowa City for a couple days this coming week.
Haha dude...anytime I ever buy him anything music-related, he critiques the shit out of it. I think it's because I haven't fully accepted Jeff Buckley and Ryan Adams into my heart as demigods...as he has...he can't for the life of him, get me into them as much as he is...which he would offer them a piece of his butt if Adams and the ghost of Buckley wanted it. He began getting all sorts of pissy with me when I'm all "dude...I don't know what it is, but I can't totally get in to this Jeff Buckley "Grace" album or any of this Ryan Adams/Cardinals stuff. I mean...it's ok and all...but..." Ever since I began making statements like those, he has been overly critical of EVERYTHING I show him (even if he knows it kicks ass)...even if I buy him the damn thing.
It's always interesting when I come back though and notice that he is hardcore "in" to all the shit I introduce him to...and the way I catch on to it is by him "slipping" or me simply seeing posters in his jam room or songs from the band on his "most played" folder on his IPod. Brings me hella-joy.
With that said...I will look into getting that for him. I don't want him thinking he has ME sold on vinyl though. I'll just be all like, "dude I bought a CD of this album and I know you are one of those hipster guys who only listens to vinyl these days, so I figured you would appreciate this." He'll immediately show a glimmer of excitement, but it will be followed by, "yeah, we'll get around to listening to it." Then when we listen to it, he'll be all like, "yeah...the vocals are a bit pitchy (as if Ryan Adams ISN'T...ugh), they missed a cord there, the production could use some fine-tuning, etc."
In a couple weeks, he'll have that album poster in his jam room...covered by one of his amps on occasions when I come to visit. I always make it a point to move his amps and shit in his jam room so I don't miss these things.
Freaking hipsters....if it weren't for them...he would like everything I like and agree with everything I say. The hipsters stole THAT component of our relationship. I'll never forgive them for it.
