If he parked down the street in order to trick the teenagers into thinking he wasn't at home, and then he waited for them with a loaded gun, and he removed the light bulbs so that they wouldn't see him, how the hell can you think this was anything but an ambush?
If you don't want people to invade your home, you don't trick them into invading your home. This isn't rocket science.
