The St. Louis Blues signed a goaltender to an extension on Monday but not the bigger name.
Brian Elliott received a three-year, $7.5 million deal, and he and prospect Jake Allen will compete for the No. 1 goaltender position next season.
That means goaltender Ryan Miller will go to free agency on July 1.
