If you are confused about why people are making a big deal about the USA advancing out of the group of death, and celebrating even though they narrowly lost to Germany, then perhaps you should google the topic and read a few stories before spouting off.

Right. Add into your scenario that there was another ongoing game which another team in your division lost, which sent you to the playoffs. You'd still celebrate a playoff run, even after losing.
