Not exactly true, IMO. There are some things that are very good in the microwave. I was sold on it when I read the microwave chapter from Modernist Cuisine. I've tried a number of their microwave recipes, and if you follow solid microwave technique, you can get outstanding results.
Fish, for instance, works very well in the microwave. But you have to seal it tightly with good plastic wrap to create a steaming effect.
