I think it's because of the feeling of permanence Williams had in my life. As a kid, there were only two shows; Dukes of Hazzard, which was about a car, and Mork and Mindy, which was about Robin Williams FAR more than it was about an alien and his girlfriend. I, nearly literally, came into consciousness as a human laughing at Mork. I wore those silly suspenders every time my mom would allow. I dreamt of sitting on a goalpost.
Williams then went on to be in a bunch of really great movies. he was always right around the corner with something. He did some crap work, and some brilliant work. Dead Poets, Doubtfire, Garp, and Vietnam, and my favorite, Good Will Hunting. Toys, which was odd. Hook, which I haven't seen. Aladdin, which has special meaning to my wife and I. He was just always there. Always just stamped into the fabric of the world I live in. I'll never forget my dad making me watch his bit about golf and listening to my dad laugh like crazy through the whole thing.
It's always a trite thing to say about celebrity deaths, but feels so true... I felt like I knew him.
Of course I didnt. Maybe no one did.
I'm just very sad.

I totally agree, this hit me pretty hard. He seemed like a good soul.
That said - Go watch Hook when you're over it. Seriously. Who hasn't seen Hook?
