In that case, there were no witnesses to what happened and no evidence that could make any serious refutation of Zimmerman's story. In this case we may have witnesses. We'll see how it pans out.
You are missing the most important part. One was a POLICE officer the other was a neighborhood watch wannabe cop.
Without knowing the story, I'm going to assume that the police officer had every right given to him by the law to stop (if that's what happened) this guy. Who knows what reason he had as that will come out. He is allowed to, by law, detain someone by force if there is cause for arrest, regardless of severity of the crime.
It doesn't matter if the guy was armed or not. It really doesn't matter if he truly went for his gun. If the officer was losing this fight in his patrol car and he "BELIEVED" his life to be in danger he can pull his weapon out and fire it.
Unless something comes out in this investigation that this cop is deemed "a racist" there is no jury going to convict.
Again, no one has the facts right now and this is all just speculation. My gut tells me that he's going to be clear of this and likely should be.
