They got Matt Schaub to be their starter. That's what they tried. The guy who's arm is falling off.
They drafted a QB (NOT IN THE FIRST ROUND

) and he didn't shit himself in the preseason game, while the putative starter couldn't complete throws beyond 10 yards.
It came down to a broke arm starter, the rookie 2nd rounder, or the guy about whom the GM said

The only thing Oakland tried to do was squeeze more years out of a damaged Matt Schaub. Everything else is a result of that. Now, we'll see if Schaub got Wally Pipped or not.
