The pictures of people carrying guns into stores amaze me. There so much that's wrong with that.
First, just because something is legal doesn't mean it's a good idea to do it. I suspect it's legal for me to wear a KKK robe out on the street, but it's a stupid thing to do it. You're just inviting trouble, and that's what these people are doing.
Second, it's stupid to associate yourself visually with crazy mass murderers. You may believe that you're perfectly sane as you stand there with your rifle. But guess what? There are people who have done exactly what you're doing, and then they started shooting innocent people. If I'm a bystander, it's in my very strong interest to assume that you're an insane mass murderer and act accordingly. The potential downside of ignoring you is high, and the downside of either fleeing or fighting is low.
Third, you damage the credibility of your whole philosophical position by doing dumb stunts like this. If your goal is "show the public" that people can carry guns and not shoot people, see Point #2 above. It's never going to work, and it just makes people less comfortable. If I have a gun, I'm comfortable. If the stranger 10 feet away has a gun, I'm uncomfortable. That's how guns work.
