What happens is that not only are teams rusty, guys fall into bad habits in terms of tackling and blocking. While their mental acuity is still sharp, their bodies aren't reacting as quickly due to less repetitions and less game-like experience.

It also made it a million times more difficult for rookies to win jobs in training camp, let alone play well. I really hope the NFLPA re-thinks this one.
