That's what I would try. If you can set a max on the auto-ISO, I would set it around 3200-6400. Depending on how well the camera handles the noise, higher could be very noisy. But at 3200, you should still be able to get a decent shutter speed at your available f-stops, even indoors.
It's been a long time, but back in the early 2000s, I think I shot indoor basketball at 3200, 1/1000th in Tv mode regularly. Now 1/1000th wasn't always fast enough, but it's what I had to work with at the time.
