He was always going to get a gig in retirement for free money anyway. I suspect there is a gentlemans agreement here but it's that Brady isn't signing true under the market deals. A lot of people suspected he'd never play out the final 3 "home town discount" years of that contract.
He got a 30 million signing bonus when he extended and 3 mill last year and this year. That's 18 million/yr with 30 million of it up front which is pretty nice from an investing standpoint. Removing the guaranteed portion of the contract lets the Patriots cut him over the summer and sign him to a similar deal again.
Pats keep pushing back the cap hit until Brady retires, Brady gets a ton of money, and they'll tack on some years that he'll never play for cheap to make him even more of a hero in Boston. Everyone wins! Well, except the guy who takes over when Brady & Belichick ride off into the sunset after year two of one of these deals in the future but they were probably going to have to be bad for a few years anyway.
