Seriously, I would say nothing less than a .357. I mean what is going to be a threat while hiking? A bear or mountain lion. I guess if you cross a moose in rut you'll need to be tree climbing.
Its a 9 mm. I know its not going to take down a bear or wolf or anything, but its better than relying on my hands. We're hiking deep enough help won't be around the corner, and I would just feel better having some protection. One of the few times I've actually had regrets about not having the .45.
