The most heavily populated part of the world—the east believes in reincarnation. It's just too foreign for westerners to embrace.
However, I think happiness or unhappiness can develop in one lifetime and can stem from losses in life. Some people never spring back. Others do.
All that being said, if cats have nine lives, why can't we?
