I don't know if this needs a spoiler tag, but Daryl hasn't been in the comics. I think the rumor came from a teaser image of Dwight holding a crossbow in silhouette. People jumped to the obvious conclusion.

I wonder if Dwight was going to be the comic version of Daryl, but was changed for some reason. Like in writing the story the character evolved away from Daryl, to the point that it didn't make sense for him to be Daryl anymore. Also there might be rights issues. Since Daryl was created for the show he'd probably be owned by AMC, so Kirkman might actually have to pay AMC to use him in the comics.
