Regarding Martinez:

I had no idea about this, but I looked at some analyses of Martinez's throwing motion, and I guess that his arm is always in a perfect position. Textbook mechanics.
Probably better contact on them as it's much more compression on the ball. I've always felt you can tell how good a player is by watching him hit wedge shots, based on the trajectory.
