He has backed off the velocity and is throwing a lot more cut fastballs than a year ago (when he didn't throw any at all). He's also throwing a lot more two-seam fastballs.

I also wonder about the conditioning... not sure he came in to the season in the shape he needed to be (either that, or he's been Felix Hernandez-ing too much and getting plastered too often).
