five Big 12 schools explored joining the Big Ten in 2010, a move that would have taken the Big 10 from 11 to 16 schools and created a Big 10 west division comprising Oklahoma, Nebraska, Texas A&M, Kansas and Iowa State from the Big 12 alongside Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota from the Big Ten.

The Big 1G adding Oklahoma, Nebraska, and Texas A&M in one fell swoop would have been a good move for that conference, even with a few hangers-on coming as a package deal.
It's hard to imagine this Big X insurrection rejecting the deal over a few dollars back in 2010, to say nothing of what it might cost to find themselves without a lifeboat in the next few years.
