I think if you could search the 2011 Cardinals thread you'd find I was against the trade. I was so pissed off at Larussa lowering his value. Then we had to take middle relievers to get him out of the locker room. That situation pisses me off even today thinking about it.

Without that trade that really happened. We don't win our 11th World Series. We don't get to experience rally squirrel, Happy Flight and get to see our team win the best WS game ever played, game 6. So, yeah even though I thought it was shit at the time, it worked out pretty damn well.

By your logic, trading Haren for Mulder and the 7+ ERA he gave us in 2006 was a good move for the Cards - afterall, if Mulder wasn't terrible than we probably don't grab Weaver off the scrap heap and he doesn't give us a 5+ ERA while eating some innings during a scramble for the playoffs and eventual title.

You can't just say "oh...well I guess it worked out" and not bother critically examining the deal. Just as Haren for Mulder was a friggen disaster that we managed to overcome, Rasmus for a pile of mediocre crap that the White Sox gave away 4 hours before we traded for them was NOT a benefit to that team. The Cards won despite it, regardless of what dipshit Dan McLaughlin has to say about it.
