If Miesha Tate, as expected, loses to Rousey then she's going to be in a weird spot. She would be either the champion or the clear #1 contender if Rousey wasn't there, but it would take a very long time, if ever, for her to work her way back up to a 4th shot. Tate is also young enough that she's still going to fight for a while.
In that situation, Tate could serve the UFC very well as a high-level gatekeeper to the endboss. Any new up and coming fighter who can beat Tate obviously should get a title shot.
