When I saw Mick Tinglehoff of the Vikings go in, I couldn't help thinking about Otis Taylor. It took the HOF 37 years to put Tinglehoff in. His family arranged to have Fran Tarkington speak for him, because Mick's brain is scrambled from football head trauma, and he can't remember names and dates and such. If they would have put him in years earlier -as it should have been- the man could have spoken for himself. Sad.
Otis Taylor's health has been terrible for a long time. I doubt he could make the trip to Canton now. I'm sure they'll give him his due after he's gone. Which is also sad. Taylor not being in Canton is as egregious as Buck O'Neil not being in Cooperstown as an enshrinee. Just a travesty.
