Meh. To me, it's like a manager that gets ejected to fire the team up. Or a goon enforcing in hockey even if it lands you in a penalty box. Throwing at a hitter even if you know it will get you ejected.
It would be one thing if this was an isolated incident. I don't know if you remember the Denver game where Bronco d-bags were diving on Charles shoulder-first well after he was down on the ground. It happened all game. Alex Smith has taken plenty of cheap shots. It's been happening all year. So yeah, I get GB's comment about taking revenge later... but if the point is to send a message to teammates that you have their back, a 15-yard penalty is just as effective. Either way, I don't think you want to be subtle about it.
