Why save bullets for later if you think you have a reasonable shot to make the postseason?
And seriously, who are the Cardinals really going to go after that would cost a real bullet?
If you sign Heyward and Price you're effectively replacing Holliday and Wainwright as the best position player and ace of the staff, respectively. Those things were going to have to happen anyway. And at some point, the team is going to have to spend some money, because it's hard to run out 25 cost-controlled guys every night.
Losing Lynn hurts, but you're talking about 3-ish wins. If some combination of Lyons, Marco, and Cooney are passable back-of-the-rotation guys, that's about a win and a half. Couple that with a full season of Wainwright and Price, and even with letting Lackey go, the rotation actually stacks up better than in '15, and doesn't need ridiculous levels of luck-based run suppression to sustain it.
Go after Price hard. Sign Heyward. Make a move for an infielder and a backup catcher.
You still get an extra 2016 pick to replenish the farm.
