Boxing looks more like a game than a fight. MMA also has to outlaw some things (biting, gouging, etc), but MMA more closely resembles a fight, and Boxing is dying out in popularity. I have no interest in seeing something that is so severely limited as boxing with those enormous pillows on their fists. It is also boxing that is simpler and less complicated, not MMA, they don't even allow you to attack the lead leg with leg kicks. Your analogy of comparing Arena Football to the NFL makes more sense in the reverse.
