That's not entirely fair. The Angels had Trout with 3 more years of team control and the contract he signed reflected that leverage, as did its structure.
For the free agent portion of his extension (2018-2020), the Angels will be paying him $34 million/season.

I still wouldn't touch Heyward at $24M AAV.
There's just no way he deserves the money of people driving in 120+ RBI's.
I'd be looking at an Adrian Gonzalez type deal with maybe another year or two.
