What took so long? Do you any idea how much time it takes for a writer's room to create a script for an hour long broadcast, especially one that's high quality, let alone, 13?
Do you have any idea how long it takes to cast and film an hour long program?
Do you have any idea how long it takes to edit, create the sound design, score, record ADR and mix an hour long program?
Here's a hint: Much, much longer than you'd think.
