They still have to produce a quality product that entertains...Just because it is rigged by a few... doesn't prevent them from creating the illusion of fair competition. It's what they sell...How many times do athletes say "it's a business". It gives them a platform to be rich and famous....and feed their athletic ego. Their job is to compete. The players dont call penalties at certain junctures in a game...the owners control the NFL, the selected officials and the commissioner...who is their front puppet/actor. It's his job to promote some sort of faux-integrity.
The NBA, soccer and now tennis have all been hit with cheating scandals...why? Because they arent listed as an entertainment entity. The NFL can settle their corruption allegations, internally, without facing any legal/media ramifications.
