I think the piece is more Showa period (1920s) than Meiji. The burled wood like that was way more popular in that period. Hibachi's are a tough sale. I've had a couple and got $400ish for both.
I have a fair collection of Japanese Edo and Meiji furniture pieces and a large amount of Japanese ceramics and ivories. If you are ever in KC I pretty much know everyone in the biz. My girlfriend has done estate sales for 42 years so I see a lot of stuff.
