This reboot is happening because Judd Apatow convinced Sony, currently the worst run film studio, that he, Rogen and friends could reboot it.
They were unable to turn in a suitable script and after seeing "The Interview" in all its suckiness, Apatow then sold his buddy Paul Fieg as the guy to reboot it with a female cast.
I don't think there's a another studio in town that would greenlight this inevitable mess.
