Giving the D more to think about and prepare for is advantageous to the offense, as long as they are well prepared in their system.
On a player level, it would seem to depend a lot on match ups. A WR with a really good move off the line might be best from a still start, where a long strider might benefit from motion. DBs factor into match ups as well.
